Covid Update - June 8, 2021

Maine-Endwell School Community:

Last night (June 7) at 8:30pm, we received the following updates from the New York State Department of Health:

INTERIM GUIDANCE FOR IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION AT PRE-K TO GRADE 12 SCHOOLS DURING THE COVID-19 PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY

“Effective June 7, 2021, face masks are not required to be worn outdoors on school grounds, including during outdoor school sports. However, Districts may choose to require face masks outdoors on school grounds.  No student, teacher, staff member, or visitor may be prevented from wearing an acceptable face mask voluntarily on school grounds”.

Effective today (June 8th), the District will make masking voluntary during outdoor activities including athletics and extracurricular activities.  We will continue to adhere to social distancing protocols as practically possible.

ADDITIONALLY, we have been informed that the CDC does not recommend that New York State relax its indoor masking policy for schools.  As a result, mask-wearing indoors, including on transportation, will remain in effect through June 25th.

Thank you for your continued patience.

Very Sincerely,

Jason Van Fossen, Superintendent of Schools
