Maine-Endwell Middle School School Psychologist Amanda Bowen has been named the 2026 NYASP Chapter I Ruth Steegmann School Psychologist of the Year, an honor recognizing outstanding school psychologists across Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, Tioga and Tompkins counties.

Bowen was nominated for the award in recognition of her dedication to supporting students, families and colleagues throughout the district. As the Chapter I recipient, she was also nominated for the statewide NYASP Frank Plumeau School Psychologist of the Year Award, which recognizes school psychologists for exceptional contributions to their schools and communities.
"In the profession of school psychology, we are the quiet warriors," Bowen wrote in her nomination. "We are the go-getters, the problem-solvers behind the scenes, the steady hands during moments of uncertainty, and the advocates who fight for students even when no one sees the work happening."

At the middle school, Bowen said success can look like a student feeling safe enough to ask for help, creating an environment where every child feels included, or simply being someone others can trust during a difficult moment.
"Success is hearing people say, 'If a student needs Bowen, they're in good hands,'" she wrote. "That trust means everything to me. Those are the wins that truly matter."
Bowen credits the Maine-Endwell community and the people she works alongside every day for helping make this recognition possible.

"I could not do this with our great district and the people in it," she said.
Bowen will be honored alongside other NYASP award recipients at the organization's annual conference and Awards Reception on November 5th in Albany.
