Mallery was nominated by Homer Brink librarian Carrie Randall, who praised her collaborative leadership style and unwavering support of the school’s library program.

“Over my 25-plus years of experience in school libraries, Kara Mallery has been the best administrator to work for, or rather to work with,” Randall wrote in her nomination. “That one word makes all the difference.”

According to Randall, Mallery views the library as an essential part of the educational experience and values the librarian’s role as a teacher and instructional partner. She regularly seeks input from faculty members, supports collaboration, and works to ensure the library remains a space for learning, opportunity and resources.

Randall also highlighted Mallery’s efforts to strengthen school culture and support staff, noting improvements in student behavior and discipline that allow teachers and support staff to better serve students. Small gestures, such as handwritten notes to staff members on birthdays and at the start of the school year, reflect the care and appreciation she shows for her colleagues.

“She talks with us, she works for us, she understands and values our work,” Randall wrote. “For these reasons, I am happy to nominate Kara Mallery as our Broome-Tioga School Library System Administrator of the Year.”
