M-E Fifth Grader Awarded Akshar All-Star Award

This morning Senator Fred Akshar presented fifth grader, Alissia Cargill, with the Akshar All-Star Award for December. Alissia, a Girl Scout, is a recipient of the Girl Scout Bronze Award. It is the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can earn, by working on a sustainable project that will make an impact on their community. Alissia's project was centered on the Oak Hill Cemetery Revitalization. This included researching the people buried there and learning about Civil War soldiers, as well as cleaning the headstones using the same process as and the same cleaner as Arlington National Cemetery. After cleaning, the cemetery was landscaped with perennials, Pea Gravel and more.

Congratulations Alissia on displaying your pride in your community and great work ethic. We are Spartan proud of you!
