Middle School students learn about Dia de los Muertos

Mrs. Meilunas’ language arts classes learned about the annual celebration Day of the Dead.

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a celebration of life and death, celebrated from November 1-November 2. The holiday is mostly observed in Mexico, as a joyous celebration of life, rather than mourning. It involves family and friends who gather to honor the lives of those they’ve lost. Tradition includes building home altars that consist of the deceased’s favorite food, drinks, flowers and candles. Family and friends gather at the graves and bring these items as gifts.

The students created their own altars as a way to remember and celebrate those they've lost.
