APP Challenge

We are happy to announce that 2 middle school teams placed in the top 5 teams in Broome County for the APP Challenge!

This year, three groups of Maine-Endwell middle school students took the initiative and joined the APP Challenge.  The problem their APP needed to solve was:

Create an app that informs users about something involving other cultures.

Students were given 3 weeks to build an app from the ground up with support.  They received a packet outlining the requirements and a rubric for APP development, a commercial promoting the APP, a presentation and a question-and-answer portion of judging.

Ella Winn, Ava Guillon, Riley Yale, and Lizzy Maraski, coached by Mr. Dave Buchak

“Culture Creature” was an APP created to help people explore the new culture they will be discovering on their trip. During/After their trip they can then inform others about what they experienced.

Adalyn Guillon, Brooke Williams, Cosette Salmon and Ella Passante, coached by Ms. Bri Burghardt

"Slang-Lator" was an APP developed to help people understand the slang words used in other languages and not typically found in traditional translation APPS

Alex Kudgus, Andrew Appleman, Priya Riegle and Calvin Kratky, coached by Ms. Bri Burghardt

"Culture Connective" is an APP that teaches about multiple festivals around the world that focus on throwing items.  Each festival has information about the celebration and a coded game in order to practice the skill of throwing based on the celebration.

“Culture Connective” and “Culture Creature” placed in the top 5 teams in Broome County.  Their families are invited to an awards ceremony at BOCES on March 23rd.

We are so proud of all of our participants!
