Joshua Kane has turned a fascination with great writers, and love of the spoken word, into a career as a stage and voice actor, professional speaker and literary scholar. On April 14, Mr. Kane spoke with High School students in Michael Lurenz’s AP English and English 11 Regents classes about his professional experiences. His virtual visit and outreach to schools is made possible with collaboration with the Firehouse Stage.
In the AP English class, Mr. Kane spoke about the connection between the written and spoken word and then answered student questions. He also gave the students some tips from his professional experience for creating a positive mindset for their upcoming AP exam.
In the English 11 class, Mr. Kane told the students how he became interested in great writers at an early age, including Edgar Allan Poe, who the students are reading in their class. He explained how theater and literature can be “gateways to new experiences.”
In addition to speaking about his stage shows, he shared some of his voice work and spoke about the career and creative opportunities in his profession.
In both classes, the conversation was led by the students who asked interesting and relevant questions.
