BOE PTA Recognition

On Thursday evening, the Board of Education recognized Maine Memorial PTA members (Sarah Brewer, Alecia Caracciolo, Amanda Curtis, Nicole Doyle, Janelle Farrell, Marisa Hadaway, Sara Morey, Amanda Serbonich, Melissa Valenta, and Ashlie Walsh) for their service to the school community.  (Note: not all PTA members were in attendance/photographed).

Here is what MM Principal Bill Dundon had to say about the PTA members:

“Maine Memorial would like to recognize the contributions of our PTA Board members for the past few years. This group has gone above and beyond to make sure the students and staff at Maine Memorial experience fun events, are involved in educational opportunities, and have the things they need at school to enhance their education. Many times volunteering goes unrecognized, so we wanted to take the time tonight to let you all know how much your efforts are appreciated. Thank you for what you have done and continue to do for Maine Memorial. “

The district also posthumously recognized Mr. Michael Schafer and Mrs. Marilyn Schafer. Mr. Schafer was the Vice Principal of M-E Junior HS from 1963-1966 and Principal of Maine Memorial Elementary from 1966-1992. Mrs. Schafer was a Pre-K and Kindergarten teacher, as well as Coordinator for SUNY Broome Early Education Program (inaugural). They were both active supporters of Dollars for Scholars.

Here is what Superintendent Jason Van Fossen shared about the legacy of the Schafers:

"Tremendous supporters of the Dollars for Scholars program, helping raise thousands of dollars for hundreds of Maine-Endwell graduates. Worked tirelessly to promote the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards for Maine-Endwell students

Worked tirelessly with Rotary Exchange students, bringing many students to Maine-Endwell, giving our students an opportunity to learn and grow.

Thoughtful, generous, and always willing to lend a helping hand.

It’s rare to come across people who are so dedicated and trustworthy. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed, and our school community was blessed to have Mr. and Mrs. Schafer's leadership."
