Homer Brink fifth grade teacher Cathie DeLuca has a unique approach when it comes to educating her students. With Mrs. DeLuca, balance is the key. “She’s an educator of the whole child, mind, body and spirit,” said fellow teacher Adriane Deyo. For that reason and more, Mrs. DeLuca is the November META Teacher of the Month.

“Education is her passion and it shows day in and day out,” said Mrs. Deyo. She cares about her students and her collegues.

Whether students take a break for a physical lunge session down the hallwayto give their brains a break, or they participate in a reflection activity, Mrs. DeLuca’s students are learning about balance in all parts of their lives and education. For staff she offers a weekly gathering called Mindful Monday’s to help the adults at Homer Brink start the week off in a peaceful and balanced place, said Deyo.

“Her holistic approach to education grows students who are empathetic and responsible members of our Spartan community.”

Each month Liberty Mutual honors excellence in teaching within our district with the Teacher of the Month award. The award, sponsored by the Maine-Endwell Teachers Association, is given to a staff member who demonstrates the following leadership qualities: professionalism and excellence in and out of the classroom; commitment to the well-being of students; high ethical standards; and civic and charitable stewardship. Award winners will be nominated by their peers.

Congratulations Mrs. DeLuca!
