Gratitude Special Delivery! Students express gratitude in notes to staff
Who are YOU grateful for? Eighth graders in Sarah Weyer’s ELA classes expressed their gratitude for staff who have impacted their lives. The project took place during this month of Thanksgiving.
First the students discussed the meaning of gratitude. Then they watched a video and thought about what they are grateful for in their own life. They used their ELA skills to interpret a poem, “When Giving Is All We Have,” by Alberto Rio, identifying key lines in the poem that had meaning to them.
Then they extended their gratefulness to a staff member in a note that was placed in the person’s mailbox at school as a surprise. Students thanked their staff member for a variety of special gestures including making learning fun, making them smile when they are sad, teaching them a new sport and for being caring.
