Harvard Spades and Yale Hearts face off in Greek Debates
High School students in Mike Lurenz’s AP English class debated which character in the works of Sophocles was the true martyr when they participated in the second round of their class Greek Debates.
Team Harvard Spades and Team Yale Hearts faced off on opposing sides of the question: “Which individual is more noble and/or more the martyr, Haemon or Antigone? The students sited passages from the “Oediupus the King,” and “Antigone” to argue their points.
The students were judged on several criteria: understanding of the topic, presentation style, information and us of facts/statistics, respect for the other team, and rebuttal.
Both teams did a great job and showed that they were well-informed about their topic. Well done Spartans!
