Third graders design parade balloons

In preparation for Thanksgiving, Homer Brink third graders in Briana Burghardt’s class completed a hyperdoc, (or lesson accessed online) on the history and traditions of the Macy’s Day Parade.

The students learned about the history of the parade, took a survey vote on their favorite float and looked at the many balloons, past and new this year, that are part of the parade’s tradition.

Then working in groups, the students were tasked with making their own parade balloon. After coming up with their idea, the students used construction paper and balloons to bring their idea to life.

The balloons are displayed outside of the classroom. Staff and students will have a chance to vote on the balloon they would like to see in a future parade. The balloons are: The Chase (Garfield), Dogman Police, Fortnite Bus, Best Friends (Cat and Dog), Mistress of Evil (Maleficent), The Ultimate Link (Link and Zelda.)
