Maintenance vs. Capital Project
The difference between annual maintenance and repairs and a capital project is simple: state aid.
For example, if the replacement of a boiler in a school building is deemed general maintenance, the district must pay for the entire purchase and will not receive any reimbursement from the state. However, if the same boiler is replaced as part of a capital project, the district will receive a portion of that cost in state aid. For the district that is approximately 85% of the cost. Therefore, the paving projects, exterior upgrades and improved heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) have been included in the proposed project in order to maximize state aid and return NYS tax dollars back to our community.
The Capital Project vote will take place on Sept. 10, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the District Office Staff Development Room (Town of Union residents), and Maine Memorial (all other residents). #beaninformedvoter
