Boys varsity basketball make trip to Alaska for tournaments
Members of the boys varsity basketball team embarked on a trip of a lifetime when they traveled to Juneau, Alaska, over the winter break to compete in the Capital City Classic basketball tournament.
The team played in three games over three days, Dec. 27 to 29. They advanced to the championship game, but lost in a close one to Juneau -Douglas HS, 66-61. In addition to the tournament, players competed in a 3-point contest , dunk contest, and attended a banquet.
Congratulations to Jack Coleman and Sonny Aybar, who were named 2018 All-Tournament players! Congratulations also to Gannon Russell for taking second in the dunk contest, and Sonny Aybar for taking second place in the 3-point contest.
The team had the opportunity to have some fun educational experiences on their trip. They toured Juneau, the state capital, visited the Mendenhall Glacier, the Alaska State Museum, Douglas Island, and the US Coast Guard Station Juneau. They also bonded with the members of the Juneau-Douglas team over pizza dinners, and fun at the Diamond Park Aquatic Center.
The team and coaches would like to send a big THANK YOU to everyone who supported them and helped to make this trip possible.
