Maine Memorial students are getting the chance to explore their interest in science thanks to a new enrichment opportunity at their school.
The first of four meetings of the new Science Club was held on Nov. 27. Science Olympiad coaches Jen Lis and Jim Tokos, with the help of High School Science Olympiad students Matt Edson and Steven Zhang, an engineer from Collins Aerospace, and teacher volunteers, hosted the afterschool experience for the students, kindergarten to fifth grade.
The students had the opportunity to go into Digital Dome to learn about the stars, they created star constellations, and made galaxy slime. They also learned about and launched rockets.
Two goals of the science club are to pique the students’ interest in science, as well as their interest in joining the Middle School and High School Science Olympiad teams in the future.
Additional meetings will be held in January February and March. Check the district calendar (print and online) for dates.
