Thanksgiving’s most iconic parade came to Maine Memorial! Fifth graders participated in a Balloons Over Broadway stem challenge.

After learning about the history of the Macy’s Day parade, the students, hybrid and remote, were challenged to make their own parade balloon based on a book character.

The students chose to create a variety of characters including Peppa Pig, Pete the Cat, Clifford, Daniel Tiger, Dora the Explorer and Charlie Brown.

The students attached their balloon to a small car and then lined them up in a parade route. Using a green screen, the class added a digital background to simulate a parade in the city.
