2019-20 BOE Recognitions

2019-20 BOE Recognitions

2019-20 Board of Education Recognitions

Throughtout the school year, the district's Board of Education will recognize students and staff for their accomplishments at a public meeting.
Congratulations Spartans!

January 2020 - Homer Brink

The Board of Education recognized Homer Brink fifth grader Madeline VanPatten and kindergarten student Lucas Blackman for their work with Maddie’s Marigolds and More. Madeline created the business concept of planting marigolds, veggies, and hanging baskets each winter and then selling them from her home on Memorial Day weekend. Her business has grown and she now makes donation to local charities including the Story Garden at the Discovery Center, the Endwell Garden Club, and the Spartan Garden, which received hundreds of plants thanks to Maddie’s green thumb.
Lucas has been helping Maddie with her business and providing customer service at the street side farm stand. He is excited to be involved in the Spartan Garden with Maddie where the pair will help other Spartans in their school district.
The Board recognized community members Linda and Ken Jackson the owners of the Amos Patterson Washingtonian Hall. The couple has hosted the Homer Brink fourth and fifth grade History Club at the Amos Patterson House for the past two years. During the visits they shared history about the home, and Endwell, with students.

January 2020 - Maine Memorial

The Board of Education recognized Maine Memorial school nurse, Sandy Nemcek, for all she does for her school's students through her duties as a nurse, but also behind the scenes, Whether it is a warm coat, holiday gifts, or new glasses, Mrs. Nemcek is alway ready to assist Maine Memorial students and their families when there is a need. She has an established relationship with community agencies and works tirelessly on behalf of her students.
Mrs. Sylvia Ward was recognized by the BOE for all the wonderful work she does as a volunteer in Mrs. Sherwood's classroom. In addition to helping the school's youngest Spartans with their letters and numbers, she helps them learn to tie their shoes, a milestone for every young child. She is a part of the Union Center Christian Church and she helps deliver gifts, and participates in game day, every holiday season. The one-on-one attention she gives children is priceless!
