MS English teacher, Shannon Gillette, is the April META Teacher of the Month
As a Middle School English teacher Shannon Gillette was an inspiration to both her students and her colleagues, always bringing out the best in others. Shannon has taken her expertise in education to the next level as an administrator at Union Endicott High School, but she has left a lasting impact at Maine-Endwell. For that reason and more, Gillette is the META Teacher of the Month for April.

Fellow MS ELA teachers Kaitlin Gleason and Sarah Weyer nominated Gillette for recognition while she was at the MS. Gillette was their go to person for support and classroom strategy. “She is always there for me (and other teachers) when we have a question or need help,” said Gleason.

“She is the person I turn to when I need help, when I want to test out an idea, and when I want to be inspired,” said Weyer.

As she does with her fellow teachers, Gillette knows how to bring out the best in her students, and they in turn respect her, said Weyer. Gillette constantly hones her craft and as the ELA lead teacher, provided meaningful and productive strategies for improvement, say the teachers.

Gillette played an important role in the success of the Middle School Academic Intervention Services program (AIS) and the school’s Response to Intervention services (RTI). She always prioritized and instilled in those around her the importance of being a lifelong learner and reader.

We know Shannon Gillette will be a valuable member of the Union Endicott school community and we wish her the best in her new role as an administrator.

Each month  the Maine-Endwell Teachers Association honors excellence in teaching within our district with the Teacher of the Month award. The award is given to a staff member who demonstrates the following leadership qualities: professionalism and excellence in and out of the classroom; commitment to the well-being of students; high ethical standards; and civic and charitable stewardship. Award winners will be nominated by their peers.
