Every child is unique and Homer Brink fourth grade teacher Kelly Thorner recognizes and embraces each student for who they are as an individual. For that reason and more, Mrs. Thorner is the Liberty Mutual/Maine-Endwell Teachers Association (META) May Teacher of the Month.

“Mrs. Thorner is able to meet the learning needs and styles of all students, from the most independent learners to those that require special education services,” said Carolyn Martin, whose son James is in Mrs. Thorner’s classroom, and who is also a teacher at the High School. James presented Mrs. Thorner with her award.

Mrs. Thorner works with each student, and her interaction validates who each student truly is. She also effectively communicates with other education professionals about her students, said Mrs. Martin.

“Mrs. Thorner orchestrates her classroom in the most admirable way, and deserves recognition for her daily efforts and sincere love of her students,’ she said.

Each month META honors excellence in teaching within our district with the Teacher of the Month award. The award, is given to a staff member who demonstrates the following leadership qualities: professionalism and excellence in and out of the classroom; commitment to the well-being of students; high ethical standards; and civic and charitable stewardship. Award winners are nominated by their peers.

Congratulations Mrs. Thorner!
