Quick tip icon District launches new school threat reporting system: Quick Tip
To help ensure school safety, the district has added a new online “tip” reporting system. Quick Tip allows anyone to report issues that would threaten the safety of our schools or the district. 
Gleason, Gillette and Weyer MS English teacher, Shannon Gillette, is the April META Teacher of the Month
As a Middle School English teacher Shannon Gillette was an inspiration to both her students and her colleagues, always bringing out the best in others. Shannon has taken her expertise in education to the next level as an administrator at Union Endicott High School, but she has left a lasting impact at Maine-Endwell. For that reason and more, Gillette is the META Teacher of the Month for April.

On March 26, seventh graders in Mr. Both’s social studies classes had a visit from AG in the Classroom educator, Sarah Atwood, and Dutchess a five-month-old goat. The visit coincided with the students’ study of the importance and role of animals in the settlement of the West during the 1800s.

What shall I be? Middle School students had the chance to explore a variety of careers and hear from people in those career fields, during the school’s Career Exploration Day, on March 23.

Local author, and M-E parent, Paul Smith, visited with students at the Middle School on March 19 to talk about the writing process. Smith is the author of the fantasy fiction book series, “Jason and the Draconauts.”

The hardships of the Great Depression came life for MS eighth grade social studies students when they studied the Dust Bowl of the 1930’s and the severe drought that devastated agriculture in the American prairies. Working with AG in the Classroom instructors, the students explored how the damaged occurred, and some ways to protect vegetation and create plant life in new ways.

In the coming weeks, the district will be using a new text messaging system to notify families about closings, delays etc. It is the same system (SchoolMessenger) that we use for notification phone calls. Please note that you must "opt-in" in order to receive text messages. An opt-in message will be sent on March 20 at approximately 6 p.m.!
