This race is held to honor the memory of Pete Matzke, a member of Maine-Endwell's 1994-1995 Section 4 Championship Cross Country teams, who died from an accidental fall at Cornell University on August 9, 1997. All proceeds from this race benefit the Peter Matzke Memorial Scholarship Fund at Maine-Endwell High School.
