Peter Karl Matzke

Peter Karl Matzke was born on November 4, 1977. He was a lively child, always putting a smile on the face of anyone he encountered. Pete was a member of the Maine-Endwell High School indoor and outdoor track team and also the cross country team. He was the captain of the cross country team 1994-1995, where he played a key role in many team victories, including two section four championships. While he was in high school he was noted not only for
his athletic abilities but also for his intelligence. After graduation he went off to Manhattan College to major in chemical engineering. He made the Dean's list twice his freshmen year. He was also a member of the Manhattan College crew team. Pete liked to spend time with his family and friends. On August 9, 1997 Pete passed away suddenly as a result of an accident. The Pete Matzke Memorial Road Race was created as a way to honor this spirited competitor. The race is run every year so that all who knew Pete can remember him as someone who made us smile, who was a great friend, a ladies man, and a hard-working, dedicated athlete. Pete was a great role model, had a wonderful sense of humor, and touched the lives of many. His determination, upbeat attitude, and positive outlook on life will always be in our hearts.
